Lidl wins top award for learning & development

IITD National Training Awards 2015 presented by Minister Damien English TD

(6 March 2015) Lidl wins the top award the IITD National Training Awards 2015, beating-off short-listed organisations such as Irish Distillers; Goodbody; Concern Worldwide; Department of Finance; KPMG; HSE & Vodafone Ireland. The 2015 Awards were presented by Minister of State for Skills, Innovation and Research, Damien English TD, at Killashee House Hotel, Naas on 6th March. 

Commenting on the strengths of successful winning and shortlisted organisations, IITD CEO Sinead Heneghan said: “What’s different about these awards is that we drill down into the learning and development practices on the ground and award best in class. Awards are granted under two headings – innovative learning and development practices and best organisations for learning and development,” explained Ms Heneghan.

Among the category award winners on the night were:

  • Genzyme a Sanofi Company & Resilience Matters - Best Consultancy Partnership
  • Staff Development, Ulster University - Excellence in Coaching Award
  • Concern Worldwide -Best Leadership Development Initiative
  • Lidl – Best Graduate Programme
  • Jurys Inn Group - Most Innovative use of Technology
  • Keelings Logistics Solutions & Positive to Work Skillnet - Back to Employment Initiative
  • DHL Express Ireland Ltd – Best Change Management Initiative
  • Electronic Arts – Best Talent Management Initiative
  • ISA Software Skillnet & DIT – Best L&D Organisation -  Networks & Groups
  • Action Cancer – Best L& D Organisation - Not for Profit.
  • Lidl – Best L&D Organisation -  Large Enterprises
  • Tourism Ireland – Best L&D Organisation -  Medium Enterprises
  • HBS Group T/A Heartbeat Safety Ltd – Best L&D Organisation -  Small Enterprises
  • Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard - Pearse Walsh Award in Association with Harvest Resources Ltd

Now in their 17th year, the IITD National Training Awards are established as the premier award in Ireland for training and people development and are sponsored by Harvest Resources.  In addition, IBEC, Open University, Talent Q and Association for Coaching sponsored category awards. MC on the night was journalist and broadcaster Margaret E Ward.

Awards entries are judged on criteria including the level of resources and investment relative to the size of the organisation; innovation in the delivery of training and development; evidence of the sustainability of learning initiatives, programme design and evaluation of outcomes from T&D activity. 

“The awards are also recognition for L&D professionals within the top organisations, as they are the people charged with delivering a world class performance from the Irish workforce, as well as successfully enabling organisations adapt to meet the demands of rapid change and global competitiveness,” added Ms Heneghan.
